Russia has set a record for the number of accident-free space launches in a row

by time news

On May 28, the launch of the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the British communication satellites OneWeb from the Vostochny cosmodrome was successfully completed, becoming the 59th consecutive accident-free Russian space launch.

Earlier, the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said in a Telegram channel that all British satellites were launched into target orbits using the Fregat upper stage.

The accident-free series started after a manned launch in October 2018, when the Soyuz MS-10 flight to the ISS was interrupted due to an accident during the separation of the Soyuz-FG rocket stages. Over the past 2.5 years, Russia has carried out 27 successful space launches from Baikonur, 19 from Plesetsk, six from Vostochny, and seven from the Kourou cosmodrome in French Guiana.

The previous record of 58 successful space launches in a row was set between February 1992 and February 1993.
