Before the last matchday of the Nations League group phase, two places for the final round are still available. The DFB team has good chances – the constellation in the English group is piquant.

Berlin.

In the Nations League for women’s footballers, which is relevant for Olympic qualification, there is still a lot at stake on the last group game day. Two of the four places for the final round in February are still up for grabs on Tuesday.

The Spanish world champions (Group 4 of the A League) and France (2) are already in the semi-finals. Germany (3) has all the trump cards in their own hands – Vice World Champion England (1) has to tremble.

Only the top teams in each group will take part in the final tournament of the Nations League, in which two European places for the 2024 Olympics in Paris will be played for. The third ticket has been awarded to France as the Olympic host. If the French women reach the final, a win in the game for third place will be enough to qualify for the Olympics. This is the situation in groups 1 to 4.

Group 1

There is a threat of an explosive finale. League leaders Netherlands (9 points), England (9) and Belgium (8) can still reach the final tournament. The Dutch host Belgium and England visit bottom-placed Scotland. If the Netherlands and England win, it would come down to the better goal difference, as the direct comparison ended in a draw. The Netherlands (+4) have a three-goal advantage, England (+1) are the easier opponents. Spicy: At the Olympics, European champions England would represent the whole of Great Britain – including Scotland. Theoretically, England coach Sarina Wiegman could even appoint Scottish players to her squad.

Group 2

France (13 points) is already the group winner. Austria (7), Norway (5) and Portugal (3) will definitely miss the 2024 Olympics. For the French women, the last group game on Tuesday in Portugal is all about nice statistics: coach Hervé Renard’s team is the only team in the A-League that is still unbeaten.

Group 3

The German team has all the trump cards in their own hands before the last game on Tuesday in Swansea against Wales (7.30 p.m./sportschau.de). If they win against the bottom team with no points, coach Horst Hrubesch’s team will certainly qualify for the final round. The first leg ended 5-1 for the European vice-champions. Only if Germany (12 points) stumbles could the Danes, with the same points, who are hosting Iceland (6) at the same time, be able to overtake them.

Group 4

The Spanish world champions easily marched through the group stage despite ex-president Luis Rubiales’ kissing affair. Before the 6th matchday, coach Montse Tomé’s team can no longer be pushed out of first place. Behind Spain (12 points), Sweden (7), Italy (7) and Switzerland (3), who are safely at the bottom of the table, no longer have a chance of reaching the semi-finals – and therefore no chance of taking part in the Olympics.
