The Mouetse association fights domestic violence and other forms of social discrimination

They scream and suffer in silence. No matter how excruciating the pain, they are sometimes forced and subjected to say nothing. They, these women who are often violated and objectified, do not know which way to turn. In Gabon, several associations are fighting against these forms of “barbarism” proscribed by society. Association leader, Raissa Kombila and her association “Mouetse”, moon in Ipunu language, are leading the fight against all forms of domestic violence

Staying silent after being the victim of any form of violence had almost become a norm. Thanks to different associations like “Mouetse”, some women come out of their painful silence.

For Raïssa Kombila, President and Founder of the said association, domestic violence against women is everyone’s responsibility.

This community leader is dedicated to the noble cause, the humanitarian cause, that of getting out and protecting women who are victims of various forms of domestic violence. Domestic violence will she say: “it’s when the partner slaps you, despises you. He steals your ID, he screams, deprives you of your freedom, prostitutes you, harasses you, humiliates you, insults you, threatens you, abuses his power, hits you“. Will domestic violence complete” it’s when he blackmails you, prevents you from seeing your friends, deprives you of your freedom“.

This female human rights defender believes that specific monitoring for victims of domestic violence is necessary. “We urgently need support for victims of domestic violence. We need to improve the conditions of women in our country. The hope is to see magistrates, police officers, gendarmes get involved in this fight” she maintains.

Also, the Founding President of the Mouetse association explained that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, it is also a necessary foundation for the establishment of a peaceful, prosperous world. and durable. The associative organization for which she is responsible is an association which promotes women’s rights for an egalitarian society in terms of health, entrepreneurship, education, training and responsibilities.

On the ground, Mouetse works almost everywhere in Gabon, especially in the province of Nyanga through the empowerment of women, economic empowerment, by providing them with machines for processing agricultural products. “We raise awareness among women about the different forms of violence and the damage that violence causes within the couple. Our fight is also that of the integration of young people who have dropped out of school” says Raïssa Kombila.

The association was founded on July 26, 2017 in Lille, France. It has had its branch in the north of the Gabonese capital since June 10, 2019. “Mouetse” is an apolitical, non-profit, secular association. It is governed by law n°35/62 of December 10, 1962 relating to associations and by decree n°286/PR/MI of December 17, 1962. This associative organization is supported by free men and women denouncing inequalities and violence. made to women within couples, across the nine provinces of the country.
