The artistic director and chief conductor of the Russian Academic Orchestra of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic, People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Gusev, has passed away. The Novosibirsk Philharmonic announced this on Thursday.

Gusev was 83 years old.

Vladimir Gusev worked in the Russian Academic Orchestra for more than 50 years, of which he led the orchestra for over 45 years. The orchestra’s repertoire includes more than 5 thousand works, including compositions by Siberian authors. For its outstanding contribution to the development of national culture, the orchestra was awarded the title of academic, a title awarded to only four such ensembles in the country.

Under the leadership of Gusev, the Russian Academic Orchestra collaborated with the country’s leading performers, such as Zurab Sotkilava, Arthur Eisen, Joseph Kobzon, Renat Ibragimov and others. The team also actively participated in educational and festival projects.
