The president of SEAT SA, Wayne Griffiths, has renewed his presidency of the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC) for a period of one year, as established by the organization’s Statutes. The decision has been made and approved by the members of the Board of Directors and the General Assembly, meeting today in Madrid.

Since his appointment as president of ANFAC In January 2022, Wayne Griffiths has faced challenges such as the need to emerge from the pandemic and the consolidation of the sector’s recovery and, above all, the transformation of the automobile industry towards electrification and zero-emission mobility, essential in turn to attract new industrial investments for the future.

During this period, under the presidency of Wayne Griffiths, the association has played a key role in coordinating the distribution of PERTE VEC I and PERTE VEC II funds.

Likewise, decarbonization has been a highlighted topic with the presentation of very specific proposals with defined deadlines, such as, among others, the Roadmaps for both light, industrial and heavy vehicles, and the proposals to accelerate the network. public charging.

Improving efficiency in demand and industrial policy plans, as well as taxation, are demands that ANFAC has prioritized in its mandate, with results such as the implementation of the 15% deduction in personal income tax up to 3,000 euros for the purchase of electrified vehicles or accelerated amortization in Corporate Tax on the purchase of electrified vehicles, among others. Likewise, it has maintained close collaboration and dialogue to advance consensus on the transformation of the marketing model of vehicle dealers.

Likewise, in March 2023 he met in La Moncloa with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to continue advancing the joint work of the sector and administration to promote the transformation towards new mobility.

After the renewal of the presidency of ANFAC, Wayne Griffiths, declared that “the members of ANFAC have given me their trust. “I am very grateful and I assume this responsibility with the same enthusiasm and commitment to the Spanish automobile industry as when I was appointed in January of last year.”

Griffiths has explained that he is renewing for several reasons. «Firstly because of the unity of the sector, which is increasingly stronger and more solid. And especially with Sernauto and with its president, Francisco J. Riberas, whom I congratulate because he has just renewed his presidency of Sernauto.

«Second, and the most important for me, is the commitment of the Government of Spain to be an ally of the automotive sector. You know that I have met with the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, and with the Minister of Industry, Jordi Hereu, and both want to quickly implement concrete and effective measures. “They are aware that the consumer has doubts and want to encourage the sale of more electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.”

Finally, the president of ANFAC has highlighted that another reason that has led to his renewal in office has been because he believes that “Spain can and should be a great reference in the mobility of the future. “If we leverage our leadership in renewable energy, we will be able to attract more investment to lead the green transition.”

For the new mandate, which will last until 2024, Wayne Griffiths will face the essential boost of the electrified vehicle market, for which ANFAC proposes a tax reform that replaces the current MOVES III.

Also the implementation of the PERTE VEC III and new industrial policy plans focused on circularity, or the approval by the Government of the new Sustainable Mobility Law and its position regarding the private zero-emission vehicle, which will determine the future of the automobile industry and employment in the sector. As well as, the necessary decarbonization of road transport with the renewal and improvement of the MOVES Plan for industrial vehicles and buses. Finally, another of the urgent challenges that ANFAC has asked the Government to do is to establish a state center that coordinates the accelerated and simpler implementation of high-power public access charging points, coordinated by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
