In 1996, four members of the Ayyankali army were arrested by the then Palakkad District Collector W.R. The film is based on the real story of Reddy being held captive in his chambers for nine hours with fake weapons. It demanded the repeal of the Tribal Bill passed by the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1996.
It is hoped that Prakash Raj will play Reddy in the teaser of the film. The collector was released only after promising that their demands would be brought to the attention of the government. Twenty-five years ago, this was a controversial event that received much media attention.
Kunchacko Boban, Joju George, Vinayakan and Dileesh Pothen play the four members of Ayyankali Pada. The film took two years to complete and was completed in August 2021.
Actor Prakash Raj and director Kamal KM He marks his return to Malayalam cinema through directing Pada. He had stopped shooting for the film before undergoing surgery.
