American lunar mission is in jeopardy due to engine failure
An engine problem arose on the Peregrine lunar lander launched on Monday, the American development company Astrobotic Technologies admitted.
The message says: “The propulsion system has failed.” Consequently, this threatens the spacecraft’s ability to achieve a soft landing on the Moon on February 23.
Peregrine was supposed to be the first commercial lander in more than 50 years to land on the Moon.
Astrobotic Technology, in search of a solution to the problem, oriented the landing module towards the Sun. This was done so that the solar panel could collect solar energy – the battery power would be depleted.
The problem occurred 7 hours after the module was launched using the new Vulcan heavy-duty launch vehicle.
