Sébastien Loeb has almost said goodbye to his chances of winning his first Dakar title. This Thursday morning, around 9:55 a.m., the Frenchman had to dismount after “twisting his right front triangle” on a rock, the organization announced.

Stuck at kilometer 132, his Prodrive Hunter saw the Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Audi), overall leader with 13 minutes and 22 seconds ahead, inexorably slip away. He started the special 10 minutes after him but has already overtaken him.

The disappointment is immense. Loeb, nine-time WRC world rally champion, performed very well on Wednesday, during the 10th stage, gaining more than seven minutes from his rival. Without a hydraulic jack problem, he could even have caught up and taken the lead. Twenty-four hours later, the suspense seems definitively sealed.
