They had a letter with them and said we had to get out of the apartments immediately, at the latest by 12 p.m. on Wednesday,” reports electrical engineer Muaaz Alkhabbaz (32), who has just renovated his apartment on the ground floor.
The information from the Nassauische Heimstätte group states literally: “It is currently not possible to return or remain in the rented rooms due to the current danger to life and limb.”

Ceilings “sometimes no longer stable”
According to Heimstätte, a contracted engineering firm has reported that the ceiling above the ground floor is no longer partially stable. That is why the 15 affected apartments were ordered to be evacuated. “The safety of our tenants is an absolute priority, we won’t wait another day,” emphasizes service center manager Sandra Nieber from the Wohnungsbau-Gesellschaft, which is majority owned by the state of Hesse and is one of the ten largest housing companies in Germany.

More than 300 large metal supports have been securing the arcades and cellars for weeks, and wooden beams around 20 centimeters thick support the outer walls.
