Alappuzha ∙ The District Legal Services Authority has sought a report on the death of a woman who was critically ill after laparoscopic surgery to stop childbirth at Kadapuram Women and Children Hospital. Authority sub-judge and secretary Pramod Murali sought a report from the superintendent of Alappuzha Kadapuram Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Kadapuram Women and Child Hospital Superintendent Dr. Deepti said that there was no failure on the part of the hospital. There are no complications in laparoscopic surgery. After surgery in the morning, patients are usually discharged in the evening. The Superintendent said that an explanation has been given to the District Medical Officer and the District Legal Service Authority regarding the incident.

Asha Sarathan (31) died at 6.30 pm yesterday while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital in Sarath Bhawan. Asha, a pharmacist at a private medical store in Kanyakulam Junction, Alappuzha, was admitted to Kadapuram Hospital for surgery at 9.45 am on Friday. After the surgery, the young woman felt unwell in the theatre.

The medical team informed the relatives that the woman’s condition is bad. Then the woman was taken to the medical college hospital in an ambulance along with the medical team. He suffered a heart attack while on ventilator in the medical college. Then he died in the evening. The relatives of the woman filed a complaint with the Alappuzha South Station and the Health Minister stating that the reason for her death was the poor treatment at the Kadapuram Women and Children’s Hospital.
