Opening of work to reform the judicial system in Gabon by Paul-Marie Gondjout

Paul-Marie Gondjout, Gabonese Minister in charge of Justice, opened the work to implement the recommendations of the symposium and the development of the “Transition Strategy for the Reform of the Judicial System”. This opening of works took place in Libreville on January 24, 2024.

Agents from the Ministry of Justice were present around their minister, Paul-Marie Gondjout. These are the Heads of the High Courts, the Commander-in-Chief of Prison Security, the Secretary General of the Chancellery, the Inspector General of Judicial Services, the Permanent Secretary of the Superior Council of the Magistracy… A meeting at during which, the member of the government proceeded to the opening of the work of implementing the recommendations of the symposium and the development of the “ Transition strategy for reform of the judicial system ».

The member of the Transitional government, Paul-Marie Gondjout, pointed out the various dysfunctions of the Gabonese judicial system. “Our judicial system has been experiencing dysfunctions for several years which no longer allow it, for the common citizen, to effectively and fairly play its role of delivering the justice expected of all and to be a pillar in the service of economic and social of our country” he says.

In his speech, he underlined the importance of setting up a working group which will be responsible for building the elements of implementation of the recommendations which were formulated there and which are not yet taken into account in the actions he takes. This concerns the reform of the Civil Code, the Nationality Code. The Minister of Justice did not fail to specify that “the same working group has until March 15 to develop the Transition Strategy for the reform of the judicial system which will soon be presented to the government for adoption“.

Paul-Marie Gondjout also specified that the final document will aim to serve “a common thread for the modernization of our judicial system and our prison administration for a judicial system that serves citizens, for justice as a pillar of economic development and for better governance of the judicial system“, he wished.

This meeting of giving and receiving is part of the aim of participating in the restoration of institutions. The minister is aware that the task is enormous. For him, there is still a lot to do and promises that he and his team will give the best of them and act as best as possible.
