Volkswagen, through Skoda, is developing a low-cost electric car model for India to be affordable for the local consumer and it should appear there in the middle of the decade, that is, more or less in 2025.

At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi, VW/Skoda India Managing Director and CEO Piyush Arora commented that this new platform is known internally as the MEB21G platform.

The MEB21G will have a high level of localized content and will serve as an unprecedented electric SUV, which will have an annual production rate of 50,000 units to serve the Indian domestic market and also the international market, obviously for English-driven countries.

This platform is described as serving entry and medium segments, but its measurements were not revealed by Skoda, which also assumes the development of Volkswagen’s small electric cars.

In this case of MEB21G, an SUV that would deserve attention due to its size would be a product measuring up to 4.00 m, to gain more tax incentives. Now, about being an SUV, it is thought that it could be an electric variant of the VW 246 from Taubaté or a project derived from the Novo Polo, given its simplicity.vw id2all platform

Here, VW floated the suggestion of a national electric car, which we initially identified as the ID.2, but later as an ID.2 SUV, due to the strong segment. It is exactly this way that Skoda will make the new car in India.

Is here? We have already heard about a possible production in 2027 of an electric model in São José dos Pinhais–PR, which could well be the successor to the T-Cross. Still, the SUV derived from the ID.2 should not be cheap for Indian reality.

Even with a front engine and torsion beam rear suspension, the construction of this ID.2 SUV would still be too expensive to maintain a competitive price in India. These characteristics are also valid here.
