Being a member of the Council of Elders is a duty, Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced at the extraordinary session of the Yerevan Council of Elders, where the issue of depriving the 5 opposition members of the Council of Elders of their mandates is discussed.
“It seemed to you that we should say do everything, defeat all the projects, and we should fold our hands and say, wow, wow, won’t our opposition suddenly get angry?” If the council member does not fulfill his duties, why should we not remove him?
We do not deprive anyone of the mandate because we do not like him. We do not deprive anyone of the mandate of the Council of Elders because he criticizes the city authorities a lot. We deprive the 5 members of the Council of Elders who did not participate in the votes the most. This is clear. The law clearly says to boycott until you have participated in 50% of the votes. Please contribute 50 percent of that. But do not be inactive under the umbrella of the boycott, because being a member of the council of elders is a duty,” said Tigran Avinyan.
The mayor said that he has some regrets regarding Sona Aghekyan, who is also being deprived of her mandate.
