Two officials have become the new deputy governors of Bangladesh Bank. They are the Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank. Khurshid Alam and chief economist Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman. They have been appointed on contractual basis as Deputy Governors for three years.

On Wednesday (February 28), the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance issued a notification regarding this appointment.

According to the notification, under the conditions of voluntary retirement from the current post and suspension of post-retirement leave (PRL). Khurshid Alam and Md. Habibur Rahman has been appointed as Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank for a period of three years from the date of his joining.

Kazi Chaidur Rahman and Nurun Nahar are currently the Deputy Governors. The appointment of two more takes the number of Deputy Governors to four.

Khurshid Alam
Khurshid Alam did his post-graduation and MBA from the Faculty of Commerce, University of Dhaka. He joined Bangladesh Bank in 1988 as Assistant Director. He is important in various departments including Banking Regulations and Policy Department, Bank Inspection Department, Financial Institutions and Markets Department, Agricultural Credit Department, Payment Systems Department, Department of Currency Management, Department of Off-Site Supervision, SME and Special Programs Department, Secretary Department of Bangladesh Bank. Performed duties.

Khurshid Alam has traveled to various countries including India, USA, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Netherlands on official work. Khurshid Alam, the father of a daughter and a son, was born in a noble Muslim family of Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria district.

Dr. Habibur Rahman
Habibur Rahman joined the Research Department of Bangladesh Bank in 1990 as Assistant Director. Before joining Bangladesh Bank, he did higher training at Bangladesh Development Research Institute. Later, he obtained Masters and PhD degrees in Applied Economics from Eastern and Western Michigan University, USA, under the scholarship of United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Habibur Rahman worked with great distinction in Research Department, Monetary Management and Technical Unit (now Monetary Policy Department) of Bangladesh Bank. Later he worked as Senior Research Economist in Bangladesh Bank’s Policy Analysis Unit under World Bank’s Capacity Building Project. He served as Deputy General Manager at Bangladesh Bank Training Academy and lastly as General Manager at the Policy Support Wing of the Governor’s Secretariat.

He has represented Bangladesh Bank in many international conferences, seminars and workshops outside the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Asian Development Bank (ADB). As a part of foreign training, he traveled to various countries in Europe-America and Africa including Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, India, South Korea.

Dr. Habibur Rahman was born in a noble Muslim family in Khiratala village of Vijaynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria. He passed SSC and HSC respectively from Mirasani Polytechnic Academy and Brahmanbaria Government College with first division with merit. Graduated from Jahangirnagar University (JABI) with First Class Bachelors (Honours) and Masters Degrees in Economics.
