After the US airstrikes in the territories of Syria and Iraq, the European Union assessed the situation in the Middle East as critical and expressed fear that it would get out of control.
Such a statement was made by the EU’s highest representative for foreign policy and security affairs, Josep Borrell, during the briefing held in Brussels within the framework of the informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU countries.
“We always repeat that the Middle East is a boiling cauldron that can explode at any moment,” Borel told reporters.
Belgian Foreign Minister Aya Lyabib, who participated in the meeting, in her turn called to do everything possible to avoid the expansion of the conflict.
“We call for restraint and dialogue, that is the only way to settle the situation in the Middle East,” he said.
