The United States does not know exactly how much damage it was able to do to the military capabilities of the Houthi rebels during the strikes on their positions in Yemen.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax, sources told the Financial Times about this.

U.S. efforts to stop attacks from Yemen on shipping in the Red Sea are being hampered by limited intelligence on the Houthis’ arsenal and the full range of their military capabilities, U.S. officials said.

The Pentagon is confident that it destroyed many of the Houthis’ weapons and forced them to change tactics, but “current and former government officials said the exact extent of the damage is unclear because the United States did not have a detailed assessment of the rebels’ capabilities before launching strikes against them.”

According to sources, the Pentagon began to receive much less intelligence about the insurgents after the command curtailed the campaign of drone strikes against al-Qaeda (a terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation) in southern Yemen, which took place during the presidencies of Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

The Pentagon says that since the strikes began on January 12, they have destroyed or damaged 150 targets, including anti-ship missiles and anti-aircraft guns, communications systems and air reconnaissance equipment, UAVs, unmanned boats, weapons depots and command posts. However, the rebels did not stop attacks against targets in the Red Sea. The US Department of Defense also reported that the rebels attacked US Navy ships or American cargo ships 62 times, hitting four commercial ships flying the US flag.
