As is known, Narine Hayrapetyan (Nare Sose), a member of the “Mother Armenia” faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders, reported to the RA police that she was abducted and subjected to pressure related to her social and political activities. According to Hayrapetyan, he was warned to “remain in moderation and stop harsh criticism”.
A criminal case was initiated based on Hayrapetyan’s report.
The worrying thing is that Narine Hayrapetyan left Armenia after turning to the police. We haven’t had any contact with him for a few days. When contacted, Hayrapetyan informed that he had left the country because he was pressured by the police, forcing him to give up his testimony and give a new testimony.
What happened in the police, that the person left Armenia after being there? This is a question that requires explanation.
What happened to Hayrapetyan is extraordinary and shocking. We assess this as a political persecution against an opposition member of the Council of Elders. We call on human rights protection structures and accredited diplomatic representations in our country to respond to all this.
Against the background of the existing security challenges around Armenia and Nikol Pashinyan’s failed foreign and domestic policies, the government’s attempts to repress and create an atmosphere of fear in our country are obvious, which we strongly condemn and will consistently fight for a complete change of government.
