With the Epiq, Skoda is launching its smallest electric car to date in 2025. At probably under 25,000 euros, it would be one of the cheapest electric vehicles on the market.

Skoda wants to launch a new small electric SUV in 2025. The Epiq should be positioned below the electric crossover Elroq, which will be launched this year, in the model range and will also bring new customer segments into the taste for electric in terms of price: it should start at less than 25,000 euros – that would currently be just over 24,000 francs. The Epiq would be an alternative for everyone for whom electric cars from the Volkswagen Group were previously too expensive.

“Modern Solid” is what Skoda chief designer Oliver Stefani calls Skoda’s new design line. In the case of the Epiq, the rear is almost reminiscent of Volvo, while the shape of the front looks more like a grinning face – and therefore family-friendly. The Epiq is still just a concept car, but experience with Skoda studies shows that it shouldn’t be far away from the production model.

Lots of space at just 4.10 meters long

At 4.10 meters there is enough space for two adults and two children on officially five seats as well as a variable load space of a surprisingly generous 490 liters. The cockpit combines a small information display for the instruments with a large central screen. The electric range of the 136 to 204 hp (100 to 150 kW) crossover is said to be around 400 kilometers. Real progress: Thanks to the ability to charge bi-directionally, the Epiq can be integrated into the domestic power grid as a power storage device.

With the Epiq, Skoda currently seems to be ahead in the internal race for the 25,000 euro electric car. VW is planning its four-meter small car ID.2 in the same price range for 2025; However, an associated SUV is not due to arrive until 2026, as is an even smaller electric vehicle in the 20,000 euro segment.

Is the price realistic?

Can the price for the Epiq be maintained? That also depends on the overall economic and political situation. If raw material prices and wages continue to rise or supply chains are interrupted, the Epiq and other small electric cars from the VW Group could also become more expensive.

In the coming years, the car manufacturer from Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic will invest several billion euros in electromobility. The Epiq will roll off the assembly line at the company’s Pamplona plant in Spain. Information about the time of its market launch in Switzerland and actual prices is not yet available.
