Three more solar power plants are being set up in the private sector at Khulna, Moulvibazar and Rajbari. In a period of 20 years, the government will purchase electricity from each of these centers for a total of Tk 3,537,600,000 to a total of Tk 10,612,800,000.

On Thursday (March 14), Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali chaired the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement, which approved three proposals. After the meeting, Additional Secretary Syed Mahbub Khan gave this information to the reporters.

The Additional Secretary said that the committee has approved the bid for setting up 100 MW (AC) solar power plant in Rupsa Upazila of Khulna. Under the Private Sector Power Generation Policy-1996, Consortium of Energon Renewables BD Limited and PWR will set up a 100 MW solar power plant in Rupsa Upazila of Khulna district as an IPP on Build, Own, Operate (BOO) basis. After scrutinizing the proposal by Bubo and PEC, the committee approved the execution of contract on ‘No Electricity, No Payment’ basis for setting up 100 MW solar power plant for a period of 20 years with the recommended bidder through negotiation. If the electricity is purchased on the basis of tariff, the said company will have to pay approximately 3 thousand 537 crore 60 lakhs as 10.9174 taka per kilowatt hour for a period of 20 years. In this regard, the Prime Minister as the Minister of the Ministry has the principle consent.

He informed that the committee has approved the proposal to set up two more 100 megawatt (AC) solar power plants in the same manner in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar district and Goaland upazila of Rajbari district. The center in Rajnagar will be set up by Thien Vu Vietnam New Energy Joint Stock Company and Dream Finder Limited.
