RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures did not accept the proposal of drivers to increase the permissible weight of trucks, the press secretary of the department Sona Harutyunyan told “Sputnik Armenia”.
The truck drivers continue to keep one of the traffic lanes of the Yerevan-Meghri road closed, demand to change the permissible maximum weight of vehicles from 26 tons to 28 tons and to cancel weighing with wheel axles.
According to Harutyunyan, a meeting was held with the drivers on Thursday, August 18. The deputy minister, representatives of the urban development inspection, technical and fire safety and the drivers themselves participated.
“The drivers were justified that the specified size, 26 tons, corresponds to the national standards. They reasoned that the weight more than that causes significant damage to the roads. The representative of the drivers was told that the weight change they requested will not happen,” said Harutyunyan.
As of now, no new discussions or meetings are planned in the ministry.
