RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan today received the President of the Sambo Federation of Armenia Mikael Hayrapetyan and other representatives of the Federation.
During the meeting with the participation of the representatives of the Sambo Federation of Armenia and the Sport Policy Department of the CSMS, the results and organizational work of the World Championship held in Yerevan on November 10-12 were summarized.
The deputy minister of the CSMS thanked for the efforts and the great work done, thanks to which the championship held in Yerevan, according to the heads of the International Federation and other partners, entered the history of sambo as the best world championship ever held.
“According to the assessment of the highest officials of the International Federation, presidents of national federations of different countries, representatives of the international mass media and sports delegations, we held the World Sambo Championship at the highest level. This is truly a whole other level. I thanked the Sambo Federation for its great work and popularizing Armenia among about 700 athletes from more than 70 countries. One can imagine what kind of reaction this all got around the world. The RA government, in the form of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Science, will be by your side in the future and will support your best initiatives. The Sambo Federation always shows enthusiasm, initiative and innovation, sparing no effort and energy,” said Karen Giloyan.
The President of the Sambo Federation of Armenia, Mikayel Hayrapetyan, expressing his gratitude for the readiness, emphasized that the slogan of the World Championship held in Armenia “Sambo is family, family is strength, strength is peace” has also become the motto of the International Federation.
“It is our big sports family that has shown the whole world that Armenia is the country where international competitions of the highest level can be held. The hard work and attitude of each person in charge is greatly appreciated. I am happy to be a part of this big family,” said Mikayel Hayrapetyan and informed that the championship held in Yerevan on the international Eurosport TV channel had 20 million views.
During the meeting, the president of the federation handed over the gold commemorative medal of the World Championship held in Yerevan and other symbolic awards to Karen Giloyan, deputy minister of KGSMS.
Let’s remind: the Armenian national teams finished their performances with 10 medals at the 2023 Adult Sambo World Championship held in Yerevan.
Aram Aghajanyan (71 kg), Boris Shatveryan (79 kg), Davit Grigoryan (98 kg), Avetik Poghosyan (88 kg), Vahram Grigoryan (64 kg) were declared the vice champions of the championship.
Bronze medals were awarded to Vahagn Chalyan (88 kg), Varsik Grigoryan (54 kg), from combat sambo – Vachik Vardanyan (71 kg), Sargis Vardanyan (79 kg), Arman Avanesyan (98 kg).
Armenian teams participated in the World Championship under the leadership of coaches Vovik Khojayan, Hayk Avetisyan and Ernest Mirzoyan.
