The Federal Service for the Protection of Consumer Rights of the Russian Federation (“Rospotrebnadzor“) has announced the suspension of the sale of separate batches of “Jermuk” mineral water in Russia, the reason for which, according to the statement, is the information about the burn of the esophagus of a resident of Vladikavkaz. According to information, earlier he got a burn as a result of drinking the contents of a bottle of mineral water.
“The RA food safety inspection body has not received any official information from the Russian Federation, however, we consider it necessary to note that “Jermuk” mineral water has been exported to Russia since 2001, gradually increasing the volume from 350,000 liters to 15,273,000 liters per year, and every the imported batch complies with the technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union.
In addition to Russia, it is also exported to USA, Ukraine, Georgia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, EU and many other countries.
In 23 years, not a single case of poisoning from mineral water exported from the Republic of Armenia has been recorded, so it is very strange that the decision to stop the sale of individual batches of “Jermuk” mineral water, in the absence of any negative changes in the production process.
Vinegar is not used in the production of “Jermuk” mineral water, and the materials used meet the requirements set by international standards and are intended for use in the food industry. The alleged residual content of the mentioned substances, according to their technical characteristics, cannot cause a burn of the esophagus.
The production process of mineral water is a fully automated closed cycle and the presence of vinegar in the bottle is directly contrary to the principle and organization of the automated production process. The minimum quantity of the finished product is 1200 bottles, therefore, the non-compliance with the above criteria should have been manifested in at least that many bottles.
If necessary, the RA Food Safety Inspection Authority will take appropriate control measures, taking into account the fact that samples of each produced batch are stored, and effective measures will be taken with Russian partners to find out the basis for making such a decision.”
