It is an international requirement that any border determination process has no force if the normal life of people is disrupted. Arman Tatoyan, former Human Rights Defender, director of the “Tatoyan” Foundation, announced the discussion on the challenges of Armenia’s border security.
“One can never separate security from people, our positions, demands, our justifications are strengthened when we act with facts, instead of working mechanically, saying: this area, map of 1970, map of 75… The process of determining real borders cannot proceed only with such maps, there must be forest, water, geodetic, cadastral maps,” Tatoyan said.
According to him, it is also an absolute international requirement: any process of border determination, if it leads to disruption of people’s normal life, disruption of security, that process has no force. “These are important conditions accepted by the OSCE, the UN, and all international structures,” he said.
