Yesterday it became known that the former mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, is founding a new party, “New Power”, it is not yet registered.
Hayk Marutyan’s teammate Hovsep Kubatyan said in a conversation with Aysor.am that the party’s program and charter exist.
To the question: why was it decided to create a new force, instead of carrying out activities with the “National Progress” party, with which they participated in the elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders, Kubatyan answered: “Hayk Marutyan answered that question a few days ago. There was a demand from his teammates to create a new force led by Marutyun.”
And will he lead the party, Kubatyan said: “The congress has not yet taken place, the party is not registered. All issues will be discussed during the congress, a decision will be made. According to the law, 300 people should be present at the congress. The assembly will take place on May 1.”
The ideological support of the “New Power” party is social reformism.
The party’s position regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is based on the unquestionable right of the people of Artsakh to live in their homeland. It is not possible to cancel the principle of self-determination of nations defined by the UN Charter, which was the basis of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process, through the use of force and the threat of force and ethnic cleansing.
The “New Power” reformist party will cooperate with European parties close to it in ideology and values, striving to become a member of the progressive alliance of European Socialists and Democrats.
It should be noted that Hayk Marutyan’s teammate, secretary of the “National Progress” faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders, Isabella Abgaryan, will not be included in the ranks of the party.
“Due to my work, I consider that I should not be a party member,” Abgaryan told us.
