On October 21-22, the Armenian cycling team participated in the Georgian Open Championship and won 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.

As reported by the Ministry of Sports and Sports, the Armenian team was represented by 3 athletes at the tournament. Vahe Virabyan competed in the adult competition, Artur Vareljian in the youth competition, and Eduard Grigoryan in the youth competition. A total of 55 cyclists from Armenia and Georgia participated in the tournament in three age groups.

Eduard Grigoryan became a gold medalist in the independent start race, having covered the 12 km distance in 17:46 seconds. Vahe Virabyan won a silver medal in the same competition, covering the 24 km distance in 33:26 seconds. Artur Vareljian also showed the second result in the 24 km race, in the fight of young people. He won the silver medal with a time of 34:07 seconds.

On the second day of the competition, on October 22, Armenian cyclists took part in a group race. Vahe Virabyan won a gold medal and Artur Vareljian won a bronze medal. Eduard Grigoryan took the 4th position in the youth competition.

Armen Gyozalyan, head coach of the Armenian cycling team, highly appreciates the performances of Armenian athletes in the last tournament of 2023. According to Armen Gyozalyan, Adam Siezkowski, the president of the Polish “Grudioz STAL” club, watched the performances of Armenian cyclists in Tbilisi. According to the agreement reached between the parties, three Armenian cyclists – Vahe Virabyan, Artur Vareljian and Svetlana Mkrtchyan – will train in the Polish club from April 2024 and prepare for the European Championship to be held in Cottbus, Germany on July 9-14.

Until then, from November 5, the Armenian cycling team will hold a training camp with 10 athletes in Tsaghkadzor. Armenian cyclists will hold another preparatory stage in January-March, after which Vahe Virabyan, Artur Vareljian and Svetlana Mkrtchyan will leave for Poland.

Armenian cyclists will also participate in the World Championship in August 2024.
