The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that the minister Roberto Cansecor, current head of the Chancellery, will be the one in charge of the Embassy of Mexico in Ecuadorthis after this country declared Raquel Serur as “persona non grata”.

It is worth mentioning that the Mexican Foreign Ministry decided to grant political asylum to Jorge David Glas Espinel, who is currently in the Mexican Embassy in Quito, and this will be communicated to the Ecuadorian authorities.

Through a statement, the SER rejected the increase in the presence of Ecuadorian police forces outside the Mexican Embassy in Quito, Ecuador, describing it as harassment and a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

“It is evident that these actions do not correspond to the usual practices of surveillance and protection of diplomatic properties, based on the norms that regulate good coexistence between nations,” the foreign ministry said.

Meanwhile, the Government of Mexico demanded that Ecuador respect sovereignty and not violate the Right to Asylum, as well as comply with international obligations, guarantee the inviolability of diplomatic missions and cease harassment.
