The United States and the European Union are close to agreeing on sanctions against Russia in the event of a further escalation of the situation around Ukraine. This was stated by US State Department adviser Derek Chollet in an interview with the Financial Times.

According to the diplomat, the US and the EU are ready to impose sanctions in case of unforeseen circumstances. As Cholle noted, sanctions against the Russian Federation, if agreed upon, will be dynamic. That is, countries that have agreed on sanctions will be able to make certain changes to the sanctions package, depending on the specific situation.

Earlier, a bill was presented in the United States on the preparation of sanctions against senior officials of the Russian Federation and major entrepreneurs in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Amendments to the law on anti-Russian sanctions were adopted by the British Parliament.
