The 9th International Francophonie Games will be held in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, from July 26 to August 6.
In 5 sports, Armenia will represent 19 athletes who will compete in athletics, freestyle wrestling, judo, table tennis and cycling.
The Armenian delegation, under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan, has already left for the competition venue.
The athletics team includes Levon Aghasyan (triple jump), Gor Beglaryan (long jump), Roman Aleksanyan (800 meter run), Davit Sargsyan (200 and 400 meter run), Yana Sargsyan (long jump and triple jump), Ellada Alaverdyan (800 meter run). and Marianna Baghyan (100 and 200 meters).
The freestyle wrestling team of Armenia includes 5 athletes: Arakel Movsesyan (57 kg), Vrezh Gevorgyan (61 kg), Hrachya Margaryan (65 kg), Gevorg Mkheyan (70 kg) and Razmik Simonyan (79 kg).
The youth judo team includes Ashik Andreyan, Mesrop Nikoyan and Gor Karapetyan. Preparing for the Francophonie Games, the judokas held a training camp on July 8-20 in Tuapse, Russia under the leadership of head coach Hovhannes Davtyan.
A dual athlete, she is also on the cycling and table tennis teams. Cyclists Khachik Sharyan and Vahe Virabyan, as well as table tennis representatives Avet Vasilyan and Rima Khlghatyan went to the competition.
It should be noted that French-speaking youth aged 18-35 from 88 full member and observer states of the International Organization of Francophonie have the right to participate in the games held every four years. This year, 38 countries applied for participation, including Armenia (already the 4th time). Participating young people will compete in different directions of culture and sports, the best will receive prizes.
Armenia has been actively participating in the Francophonie Games since 2009. The representation of our country at the games contributes to the development of cooperation with the International Organization of Francophonie and promotes the implementation of new joint projects.
