Moscow: Russia has supplied Igla S surface-to-air missiles to India amid the Ukraine war. India is soon going to deploy this missile against China in the Himalayas. This missile can be easily carried anywhere and can be fired by keeping it on the shoulder. Through this, fighter jets, drones and cruise missiles can be targeted. Russia has supplied this missile at a time when tension between China and India has increased considerably. Amidst the Ukraine war, the friendship between Russia and China has become without any limit. Experts say that giving this missile shows that despite being close to China, Russia is not going to weaken its friendship with India.
In the year 2021, the Indian Army started using this Soviet-designed missile for the first time. Amidst the 4-year-long tension with China, India is purchasing this shoulder-fired missile on a large scale. Earlier in the year 2020, many Indian soldiers were martyred during the Galwan violence. Experts say that Russia’s donation of this missile shows that despite friendship, China could not bend the Russian leadership against India in the arms issue. China has been opposing Russia for selling arms to India, but Putin has clearly said that he will not accept Dragon’s suggestion.
‘China could not make Russia bow down to India’
Nandan Unnikrishnan of the Observer Research Foundation told Newsweek magazine, ‘The general public does not know the actual terms of this agreement, but the general opinion is that before giving any weapon, Russia does not impose any conditions regarding its use.’ He said that till now the relations between Russia and China have not affected the defense partnership between India and Russia. Recently India has sold BrahMos missile to Philippines which it has made in collaboration with Russia. China is under tension with the Philippines and Manila also has a defense agreement with the US.
Goods will reach India from Russia in 10 days
Philippines will soon deploy BrahMos missile against China which is showing arrogance in the South China Sea. Former Philippines Defense Minister Delfin Lorenzana says that the world’s fastest cruise missile BrahMos will give a befitting reply to any audacity against the sovereignty of his country. At the same time, American Professor Christopher Clary says that India may be worried about China’s increasing influence on Russia and its future impact. He said that India should be worried that if there is a major military conflict, China may put all its pressure on Russia to stop the arms supply.
