Several high-level visits to Turkey are possible before the end of April. Among them is the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, the Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak claims this.
Local media have previously repeatedly reported about the possibility of a visit to Turkey by the Russian leader, but official Ankara has not yet confirmed this information. Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan also spoke about Putin’s proposed visit after the municipal elections on March 31.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov reported on April 8 that contacts between Putin and Erdogan are being prepared and are possible in the foreseeable future, but the exact dates have not yet been determined.
According to Yeni Şafak, one of the issues on the agenda for negotiations between the presidents of the Russian Federation and Turkey may be “steps to resume the work of the grain corridor,” launched in July 2022. In July 2023, Russia suspended participation in the Black Sea Grain Initiative because the conditions regarding unhindered access of its agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets were not met. The Turkish President previously spoke about the need to renew the Black Sea deal and conclude an agreement to ensure the safety of commercial shipping in the Black Sea.
At the same time, the Türkiye newspaper claims that the Russian President’s visit to Turkey is planned in May. There is no date yet, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is carrying out preparatory work, the publication writes.
