“Morocco has just launched projects to develop its railway network and Spain aspires to contribute to this project, given its experience in this area,” he declared to the press, following the a working meeting with the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, expressing his country’s readiness to share its experience with Morocco in the field of rail transport.
Mr. Puente Santiago described Spain’s relationship with Morocco as “priority and very important”, adding that the Kingdom represents a great opportunity for the development of the entire region, particularly for the European Union.
He said he was “very impressed by the development dynamic initiated in Morocco, a neighboring and brother country.”
For his part, Mr. Abdeljalil stressed that this visit represents a suitable opportunity to address issues of common interest. “The two parties will work together to develop the high-speed rail network in Morocco and will examine prospects for cooperation in this sector,” he said.
After highlighting the excellent relations between the two nations, the minister recalled that Spain occupies first place in Morocco’s international trade, whether in terms of exports or imports, highlighting the crucial importance of the Strait of Gibraltar in this matter.
He also insisted on the imperative of close collaboration between the two parties, in accordance with the agreements reached during the previous visit to Morocco by the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, with a view to developing future projects.
Other subjects were also discussed during this meeting, notably Operation Marhaba, road transport and the establishment of an ecological corridor across the Strait of Gibraltar.
