I am glad to host Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and his delegation in Armenia for the first time, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during joint statements.
He first congratulated Kobakhidze on assuming the position.
“I am sure that Mr. Kobakhidze will make a serious contribution to deepening the relations between Armenia and Georgia with his careful follow-up. You know that on January 26, the 13th session of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia took place in Tbilisi, during which a joint declaration on strategic cooperation was signed between the countries, which highlights an ambitious perspective for the further development of our bilateral relations covering all spheres. .
Pashinyan added that today he and his Georgian counterpart discussed the necessary steps for the implementation of that joint declaration.
“Unconditional recognition of each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty is an essential element in that declaration. Today we also discussed the strategies for activating the demarcation process between Armenia and Georgia.
The continuous expansion of relations with Georgia is of strategic importance not only for our countries, but also from the point of view of ensuring regional stability and mutually beneficial cooperation.
As you know, last year, at the end of the year, Georgia acquired the status of a candidate country for EU membership. I would like to point out that in Armenia they responded enthusiastically to the news, considering what happened to be an important event that will have a direct impact not only on our region, but also on Armenia-Georgia bilateral relations. RA supported and continues to support Georgia’s aspirations to join the EU.”
Pashinyan also presented to Kobakhidze our perceptions regarding regional peace, developments and the current state of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“I reaffirmed that Armenia assumes its share of responsibility for establishing peace and stability in the region. We expect that other actors will show the same approach. I emphasized that Armenia is ready to move forward in the process of normalization of relations with Azerbaijan based on the three principles already established between Armenia and Azerbaijan: mutual recognition of territorial integrity and sovereignty based on the Alma Ata Declaration of 1991, implementation of the border delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. on the basis of the same declaration, as well as within the framework of the principles of respecting the sovereignty and jurisdiction of countries, unblocking regional infrastructures, ensuring equality and reciprocity.
Regarding the latter, we believe that the “Crossroads of Peace” project put forward by the RA government should become one of the future topics of the strategic partnership between our countries. We know and see that Georgia is not only interested in the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but is also actively trying to contribute to that process, for which we thank our Georgian partners.”
Summarizing the speech, Pashinyan noted that the relations between Armenia and Georgia are developing dynamically.
