/ Germany urged its citizens on Friday to leave Iran, saying that there are risks of a sudden escalation in the current tension between Tehran and Israel.

She pointed out that there is a possibility that the Iranian authorities will arbitrarily arrest German citizens.

The German Foreign Ministry said in a new warning: “In light of the current tension, especially between Israel and Iran, there is a risk of a sudden escalation… it cannot be ruled out that air, land and sea transport routes will be affected.”

“German citizens are at significant risk of arbitrary arrest, interrogation and long-term imprisonment. Dual nationals are particularly at risk,” she added.

Israel is anxiously anticipating an attack by Iran or its agents, with increasing warnings of a retaliatory response to the killing of a senior military commander in the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus in early April.

Countries including India, France, Russia and Poland are warning their citizens against traveling to the region, which is already tense due to the war in Gaza, which has now entered its seventh month.

The Iranian guide, Ali Khamenei, confirmed on Wednesday that Israel “will be punished” and said that “consulates and embassies in any country are the territory of that country, and an attack on our consulate means an attack on our territory.”

Before that, Iranian officials threatened Israel to respond to the attack and that Israel’s embassies were “no longer safe.”

However, Iranian sources told Reuters on Thursday that Tehran conveyed to Washington a message that it would respond to the Israeli attack on its embassy in a manner aimed at avoiding a major escalation and that it would not rush to respond.
