ABC reported that Israel launched a missile early in the morning on the 19th (local time) and struck a location in Iran.
ABC, citing local sources, said explosions occurred in Isfahan in central Iran, As-Suweidah province in southern Syria, and the Baghdad region and Babil province in Iraq.
The media also reported that looking at the video filmed in Isfahan, it appears that Iran’s air defense network was activated in the skies over the area. Isfahan is a major air base for the Iranian military and is home to sites associated with Iran’s nuclear program.
Earlier, ABC reported, citing U.S. officials, that Israeli missiles hit a location in Iran.
According to CNN, Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency cited local sources and reported that an explosion was heard at Isfahan Airport, but the cause was not immediately known. Iran’s state-run Press TV also reported that an explosion was heard near the central city.
CNN, citing the flight tracking website ‘FlightRadar’, reported that at least eight flights were being diverted in Iranian airspace.
From the night of the 13th to the early morning of the next day, Iran mobilized about 300 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to attack Israel. This is in retaliation for Israel’s bombing of the Iranian consulate in Syria on the 1st of this month, and is the first time in history that Iran has directly attacked mainland Israel.
Accordingly, Israel has always predicted retaliation against Iran. Although the U.S. Joe Biden administration strongly discouraged Israel from retaliating for fear of the war spreading throughout the Middle East, Israel eventually retaliated six days after the Iranian airstrike.
