“I think we’re already starting to see that the situation on the battlefield is starting to shift a little bit in Russia’s favor,” Austin added, saying: “We’re seeing gradual takeovers of the Russian armed forces, and we’re seeing the Ukrainians facing a challenge in being able to hold their positions.”
The US Secretary of Defense renewed his call on Congress to approve as soon as possible the US administration’s request for additional funds in order to provide assistance to Ukraine.
The US Secretary of Defense stressed that “Kiev is in dire need of supplies of ammunition and weapons from the United States,” stressing that “the United States has no intention of getting involved in the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, but it will continue to support Kiev.”
In the same context, John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the National Security Council at the White House, confirmed that “the United States does not intend to play a combat role in Ukraine.”
In turn, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Brown said, “Ukraine is currently facing a hopeless situation on the battlefield,” and added: “I will just tell you that Ukraine is now facing desperate conditions on the battlefield.”
