At the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art, the opening of the Azerbaijan pavilion took place, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of our country in Italy.

As Day.Az reports with reference to AZERTAC, the 60th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art, which will last until November 24, is held under the slogan “Foreigners Everywhere”.

The Azerbaijan Pavilion is located in Campo della Tana, one of the 16th-century architectural monuments in Venice, and, being organized under the theme “From Caspian to Pink Planet: I Am Here,” reflects the slogan of the biennale.

Speaking at the opening of the pavilion, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov recalled the support projects provided by the Foundation to Azerbaijani artists over the past period. He noted that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation also takes part in organizing pavilions at the Venice Biennale.

Anar Alakbarov thanked everyone who took part in the creation of the pavilion, including the curator of the project – critic of contemporary art, professor of art history, curator of the Italian pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale Luca Beatrice, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, as well as the embassy of our country in Italy.

Luca Beatriz, curator of the Azerbaijan pavilion at the Venice Biennale, emphasized that modern Azerbaijani architecture is in dialogue with history, and our art is the most accurate reflection of future-oriented relations. Luca Beatriz urged the event participants to visit Baku in order to understand the cultural and artistic temperament of our ancient country.

Then the guests got acquainted with the Azerbaijan pavilion.

Among the visitors to our pavilion were also the Director General of the UN Office in Geneva, Tatyana Valovaya, and the Minister of Culture of the United Arab Emirates, represented at the Venice Biennale, Salem bin Khaled Al Qasimi.

Azerbaijani Minister of Culture Adil Karimli met at the Venice Biennale with the Minister of Culture of the United Arab Emirates Salem bin Khaled Al Qasimi and colleagues from other countries. At the meetings, views were exchanged on the development of cooperation in the field of culture and joint cultural projects.

Our country has been participating in the Venice Biennale, one of the world’s most famous venues in the field of contemporary art, since 2007. In the Azerbaijan pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale, through a rich palette of works by honored artists Irina Eldarova, Rashad Alakbarov, and artist Vusali Agarazieva, the theme of a foreign land is explored, bringing to attention the relevance of this topic for Azerbaijan.
