New Delhi: With the increasing use of technology, while people’s work is becoming easier, it is also causing many problems. After the continuously increasing use of AI, now deepfake videos are emerging as a new problem. If care is not taken, it can cause great harm to people in many ways. Identifying deepfake video is also not easy. It looks exactly like the original video. Now BSE has alerted investors on one such deepfake video. After NSE, BSE has also warned investors about a deepfake video of its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sundararaman Ramamurthy recommending shares. In a statement issued by BSE, it said that some such videos and audios have come to its notice, in which its top officials are allegedly seen giving suggestions about some shares and investments. The exchange termed these videos and audios as fake, unauthorized and fraudulent and said that they have been created using state-of-the-art technology.

This is how deepfake video is made

Deepfake videos are created by manipulating the original content using artificial intelligence (AI). This poses a risk of spreading misinformation and damaging the reputation of the person concerned. BSE said its chief does not initiate or endorse any such communication through Facebook or any other social media platform. Earlier, on April 10, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) had also issued a statement cautioning against the deepfake video of its MD and CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan with share recommendations.

BSE will take these steps

BSE asked investors not to rely on such videos and audios and not to follow fake advice or unsolicited communications being spread in misleading ways impersonating Ramamurthy. BSE said it will take all possible steps to prevent misrepresentation by unknown elements. She said that any official communication is issued only from the official website and social media handles of the exchange.
