The Armenian women’s boxing team won 1 gold and 2 bronze medals at the European adult boxing championship held in Budva, Montenegro.

Ani Hovsepyan was awarded the title of European champion. In the final of the 70 kg category, the Armenian sportswoman gained a 4:1 advantage over the representative of Ireland, Christina Desmond, and was awarded the title of champion. Ani Hovsepyan earlier won the quarter-finals of the championship over Hungarian Regina Lakos, and in the semi-finals she won 5:0 over Montenegro’s Tamara Radunovic.

Commenting on the championship, Ani noted that he had waited too long for this medal. “The Irish boxer was quite a difficult competitor, but my desire to win and fight in the ring was greater because I had waited so long for this moment and this medal. The European Championship is already history. I need to prepare even better and develop the success I have now. My plans and goals are related to the 2024 Paris Olympics. I hope to be in the Olympic team.”

By the way, Ani Hovsepyan was also elected a member of the executive committee of EUBC (European Amateur Boxing Federation) during the championship. The choice was made by the boxers. There are also one female and one male boxers in the executive committee. They will raise issues related to boxers in the executive committee.

As part of the Armenian women’s team, Yekaterina Sicheva (54 kg) and Sona Harutyunyan (63 kg) won bronze medals, standing on the third level of the podium.

It should be noted that for the first time in history, Armenian boxers won medals at the European women’s adult boxing championship.
