On Saturday, after long debates, the US House of Representatives passed the 60.8 billion US dollar support package for Ukraine. This law still needs to be passed by both the US Senate and the President, but it is expected to happen this week. Politicians of Western countries were very happy with the law, while Kremlin politicians poured their anger and threats on social networks.
“Thank you to everyone who supported this package because it is a solution to protect lives.” I personally thank House Speaker Mike Johnson and all Americans who, like us in Ukraine, believe that Russian evil must not win. I hope that the bill will be passed by the US Senate quite soon and sent to President Joe Biden,” the president of Ukraine wrote on the X social network.
The US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) explained that the first military equipment included in the support package will reach the Ukrainians only in a few weeks. Analysts warn that the situation on the frontline will continue to deteriorate during this short period of time, while Russian forces try to use their last chance to advance before the US aid package reaches Ukraine.
“Ukrainian forces may suffer additional losses in the coming weeks, but it is likely that the Ukrainians will be able to suppress the current Russian offensive if renewed US assistance is provided as soon as possible,” ISW described the significance of the support.
On Sunday, Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesman for the operational group fighting in the Bakhmut and Avdijivka districts, described the situation in the main axis of the Russian attack. According to him, the situation at the front has deteriorated even more in recent days – the city of Chasiv Yar is still under the control of Ukrainian soldiers, but the occupiers are actively attacking Ukrainian defense lines.
“The occupying army does not stop trying to storm the positions of our defenders, using all kinds of weapons, artillery, tanks and various types of drones. They also involve the aviation, which bombards us with flying bombs, and they do all this in order to achieve their only goal, which is to advance towards the administrative borders of the Donetsk region,” N. Voloshyn described the Russian tactician and his intentions.
