Islamabad: Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi arrived on a three-day visit to Pakistan on Monday. On Monday, Raisi said Iran and Pakistan have agreed to take trade between the two countries to $10 billion over the next five years as the current volume is not acceptable. Raisi made this comment in a joint press conference after a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This is the first visit of a head of state after the general elections held in Pakistan on February 8. The news related to increasing trade between the two countries is coming at a time when America has imposed sanctions on Iran. Raisi said during this time, ‘We are committed to strengthening our relations to a higher level. The volume of economic and trade between Iran and Pakistan is not acceptable at all. As a first step, we have decided to increase the trade between the two countries to 10 billion dollars. In his address, the Iranian President praised the Pakistani people who demand the ‘freedom’ of Jerusalem. Regarding this, he said that there are some common beliefs and religions which are interconnected and no one can separate them.
Some people do not want Iran-Pakistan relations
The Iranian President said, ‘You will find some people who are not in favor of expanding and promoting good bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan. But who cares? that’s not necessary.’ He was directly targeting America. Actually, the work of gas pipeline between Iran and Pakistan has been stalled for a long time. Whenever Pakistan increases this work, America threatens sanctions. Raisi said, ‘The great people of Iran turned the illegal and unfair sanctions imposed against my country into an opportunity. Today Iran is an example of development and technology.
America has imposed sanctions
Iran recently launched a major missile and drone attack on Israel. America has imposed sanctions on Iran after this attack. Biden said in a statement on Thursday that the sanctions targeted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iran’s Defense Ministry, and leaders and entities associated with the Iranian government’s missile and drone programs. The new sanctions target 16 people and two entities linked to the production of Iranian drones. The US has imposed sanctions on five companies that supply steel to Iran, as well as three that offer aid to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard. Apart from this, before Raisi’s visit, America had imposed sanctions on Chinese companies for helping Pakistan’s missile program.
