Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan on Monday presided over the opening ceremony of the 16th edition of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM), held under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI from 22 to 28 April at the Mechouar Stinia-Sahrij Souni in Meknes. , under the theme “Climate and Agriculture: Towards Sustainable and Resilient Production Systems”.
At the beginning of the opening ceremony of this 16th edition, whose guest of honor is the Kingdom of Spain, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan presented 3 certificates of recognition of specific signs of origin and quality to the presidents of local producer groups bearing the label. product during the 2023-2024 campaign.
Thus, the first certificate was awarded to Abdelkrim Bayad, President of the Federation of Oriental Almond Professionals for the Benny Snaissen Almond Geographical Indication (Oriental Region), while the second was awarded to Mohamed El Hadi, President of the Ait Bouguemez Cooperative of Agricultural Producers. For the Pomme geographical indication of the Ait Bouguemez valley (Beni Mellel-Khenifra region).
The third certificate was awarded to Abdessalam El Houdafi, director of the company Le Petit Domaine SARL, for agricultural label eggs from free-range hens.
Later, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan posed for a souvenir photo with three farmers.
One of the main areas of product development within the framework of the Green Morocco Plan and Generation Green, the labeling system aims to promote the quality of local products and the information of the local population, the development and improvement of rural areas. To promote agriculture capable of enhancing farmers’ income, protecting quality local products against any usurpation, as well as preserving biodiversity and natural resources in rural areas.
At the entrance to the salon, the Crown Prince was welcomed by Luis Planas, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, dignitaries representing the invited foreign countries (France, Romania, Czechia, Benin, Burundi, Ivory Coast). Eswatini, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan and South Sudan), as well as by Ms Josefa Lionel Correia Sacco, Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union Commission.
Afterwards, Moulay El Hassan visited the different poles of the show and followed explanations on the displayed products, especially the region poles, before posing for a souvenir photo with the presidents of the regional councils.
The Crown Prince also visited the Water and Irrigation and Research and Innovation stands at the Generation Green Pavilion of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests and the Institutional, Local Products, Livestock Input Centre, Livestock, Agri-Digital and international.
On the Agro-Food pole, Moulay El Hassan screened an in-depth video on aspects of the digitalization of agriculture before moving on to the Agro-Supply and Machining pole.
Built on Sahriz Souni Square over an area of 12.4 hectares, SIAM, which sees participation from 70 countries and 1,500 exhibitors with 40 conferences and roundtable events, promises to be an enriching experience for professionals and the general public.
It offers visitors a range of products and the latest generation agricultural machinery, capable of boosting agricultural and animal production and key sectors of the regional economy, including agri-food and consequently the food industry.
The 2024 edition of SIAM is marked by the introduction of a new Agri-Digital Pole, reflecting the role of digital technologies in the service of more efficient and more resilient agriculture, the significant expansion of the local product pole, the promotion of Moroccan agricultural diversity and Is. Over the past few years, SIAM has succeeded in establishing itself as a flagship program for Morocco in general and its agriculture in particular. It has acquired a leading Pan-African dimension and has become the main attraction for professionals in the field across the continent.
