It was following a visit by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin to Rabat that the agreement was concluded.
The minister’s visit this Monday, April 22, made it possible to conclude Morocco‘s additional support in the security of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in France.
The Moroccans thus join the fifty other foreign countries having agreed to support France in securing the event. Nearly 2,500 foreign police and gendarmes are expected to cover the sporting event from July 26.
Through a message on the social network X, Gérald Darmanin shows his gratitude for the Cherifian country.
In this regard, he mentions his Moroccan counterpart, Abdelouafi Laftit, thanking him “ for the action of its services and for cooperation between our two countries: security, fight against terrorism, civil security and aid for the Olympic Games in Paris ».
The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior confirms the “ operational and logistical support as part of the preparations ».
This trip, made in the company of the Director General of the National Police, Frédéric Veaux, and the Director General of the National Gendarmerie, Christian Rodriguez, allowed the Minister of the Interior to present the French request in detail. This was an opportunity to plan the dispatch of Moroccan police officers as well as deminers, making it possible to double the demining capacities on the competition sites. The city of Saint-Etienne will be particularly concerned, hosting the Moroccan U23 football team, namely the under-23s. Morocco’s response regarding the exact quantity of police officers and deminers is not yet defined but should be communicated by the country within a few days.
The trip was also an opportunity to discuss consular passes (LPC), essential papers for expulsion from French territory. A sensitive subject already mentioned in 2021 by the Head of State, and at the time inconclusive, Gérald Darmanin is now confident.
« Cooperation in matters of OQTF [obligations de quitter le territoire français] has resumed and many consular passes are issued by the Moroccan authorities ».
The Minister of the Interior insists on the cooperation remaining “ very good ” between the two countries and wants to make this trip witness to a page being turned in the face of ” political vicissitudes » between France and Morocco.
A meeting decidedly under the sign of idyllic harmony.
