For this study conducted by Allianz, the insurance group and partner of the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees, 3,020 French people, aged 18 to 75 (including 1,484 families with children) were questioned about their relationship with physical activity and sport.
Positive effects on physical and mental health
And the results published by The Parisian 92 days before the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11), are positive to say the least, according to Stéphane Camon, leader of the My Health ecosystem at Allianz France. “It is often said that the French are sedentary, this study takes the opposite view and shows that the French are not only active, but also very attached to this physical activity. They also make the link between physical activity and health, particularly mental health. »
Indeed, according to the study, more than 8 out of 10 French people believe that physical activity is important for them, 6 out of 10 devote 30 minutes to sport per day. 59% of people consulted saw benefits on physical health, 51% on mental well-being.
If endurance sports such as walking and Nordic walking are favored (70%), 46% of French people face several difficulties in practicing sport such as lack of time (46%) or financial constraints (33%) . But practitioners recognize effects on their health: 63% notice a cardiovascular improvement and 61% on weight control.

Regarding the study of sports practiced by the children interviewed, football comes up most often (14%), followed by dance (10%), swimming (9% and basketball (9%).
