Apple will stop producing its FineWoven branded eco-friendly accessories. As Day.Az reports, this was reported by the MacRumors portal with reference to insider Kosutami.
Last year, Apple stopped selling leather iPhone cases, smartwatch bands and other accessories in an effort to make its products more environmentally friendly. Instead, Apple introduced FineWoven material, which is made from 68% recycled materials.
However, users have not appreciated FineWoven accessories mainly due to their fragility. FineWoven iPhone 15 cases were found to scratch easily compared to traditional leather cases. Additionally, FineWoven’s accessories aren’t the cheapest: a smartphone case costs $59 and an Apple Watch band costs $99.
As a result, Apple decided to abandon FineWoven due to the fragility of the accessories. All FineWoven production lines were stopped and dismantled, and Apple switched to a different material. What exactly is unknown, but it is clarified that it is not leather.
Most likely, new accessories will be presented at one of Apple’s upcoming presentations in May or September.
