Taiwan’s Central Meteorological Administration recorded at least 218 earthquakes and aftershocks over the past day.

The first earthquake was recorded with a magnitude of 5.5, after which several earthquakes were recorded, the two largest earthquakes having a magnitude of 6.0 and 6.3.

The tremors come weeks after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan on April 3, killing 17 people and injuring more than 1,100 others.

Taiwan’s Central News Agency, citing the Disaster Response Center, reported that the death toll from the April 3 earthquake reached 10 people, while 1,106 others were injured.

According to statistics, earthquakes occur more frequently in Hualien County than in other areas on the island. In February 2018, a devastating 6.5-magnitude earthquake killed 16 people and injured 285 others.
