Have you ever seen a mobile science lab? ‘Lab on Wheels’ is a unique effort by a teacher from Punjab for the last 11 years to make science accessible to those who are unable to access it.
In his moving car, you will get to see everything from mathematical formulas to the unique world of space. Actually, Jaswinder Singh of Patiala, Punjab wants to take science to every home. To fulfill this objective, Jaswinder Singh had created this unique lab on Wheels. Which he has been running for the last 11 years.
Speaking to The Better India, he said, “One day I went to school to take the practical exam. So the children there said, ‘The teacher told us to come after signing.’ So I said, there is a three-hour practical paper, if you do something then I will give you marks. Then the thought came to my mind that they should be given some practical training. So when I started teaching the children, they asked me to tell them more.”
From this incident, Jaswinder understood that children can be connected to science only through practical methods and not through books. It was then that he decided at that very moment that he would personally take science to those who were not coming to science. He built this lab with his own money and by visiting different institutions, intersections and even temples of the city, he tells people about planets, magnets and electricity.
Thus till date he has organized 1359 exhibitions. He has also organized such exhibitions in 11 states of India. And has worked with about 7 lakh people to connect them with science. Not only this, for his efforts he has also received many honors like International Book of Record, Pride of Punjab, Shiksha Ratna Award.
