The Climbing Association of Ioannina returned with five medals from the 3rd Panhellenic Rock Climbing Championship, which was organized by the Hellenic Mountaineering – Climbing Federation (EOOA) on Saturday, April 20 at the “Portes” climbing field of Amfissa.
Kyriakos Hararas won the bronze medal in the A18 category (ages 18-34), Dimitris Younis won the silver medal in the A35 category (ages 35-39) and Panagiotis Kordas the bronze in the same category. Vassilis Milionis won the silver medal in the A55 category (ages 55-59 years) and finally Vassilis Kalambokis once again won the gold medal in the A60 category (ages 60-64 years). The EOS of Ioannina participated with ten athletes.
The sport of rock climbing is a new sport, the legality of the regulations of which was approved by Ministerial Decision in 2022. In contrast to the well-known sport of competitive climbing, it takes place in an open area, on natural rocks, with naturally formed climbing routes without artificial interventions or additions to the rocks, which alter their relief and morphology.
