Most of the shops of the Unified Social Security Agency operate with half of the necessary staff, with this lack being the biggest problem, combined with the absence of infrastructure, which not only have to do with spatial planning, but also with the necessary technological equipment.

A consequence of the lack of staff and their non-replacement for at least a decade, is not only the inability to provide direct service to the trading citizens, but also the “disappearance” of knowledge, in a difficult, complex and specialized subject, such as that of social security.

These issues were raised once again before the commander of the EFKA, Alexandros Varveris, at the start of the 29th Regular Accounts Conference of the Panhellenic Federation of Employees of the Agency, which takes place in the city of Ioannina.

In a press conference, the president of the Workers’ Federation, Charalambos Lymberas, noted that public social security concerns the entire society. “We want every citizen to be served correctly, quickly and efficiently. That is why we ask the State to give us the necessary tools. We are focusing on the tragic staff shortages, as there are at least 14 years of recruitment at EFKA, and on the infrastructure, such as computers, networks and the training of employees in the new data”, he noted, while he was categorical that none of the work under the competence of EFKA it does not need to be given to private individuals, given the firm position against privatization that the industry has expressed.

At the same time that the shortages amount to 50% of the staff, more than half of the workers are over 45 years old, as stated by the general secretary of the Federation, Antonis Nikolopoulos.

Corresponding problems of lack of staff also exist in the EFKA branches in Ioannina, where there are departments with only one employee and one supervisor, as stated by the president of the EFKA Employees’ Association of Epirus and Lefkada, Michalis Kolios. Another problem is the move of the 2nd Local Directorate to Eleusa months ago, as a result of which citizens’ access is difficult.

The problems of the lack of staff and infrastructure were directly recognized by the commander of EFKA during his greeting to the Conference, which began with banners and slogans from a section of workers. “You are right about the staff, but the administration does not draw up the central policy and cannot hire staff”, he noted, referring to the support through the DYPA 55-67 year old program and two competitions through ASEP, located in development.

Regarding the infrastructure, he noted that in the last ten days the installation of new computers has begun in some branches, estimating that the equipment will be completely replaced in the coming months, while EFKA is a priority by the Ministry of Digital Governance for its inclusion in the “Connection II” system, which will allow higher internet speeds.

The Congress was welcomed by the deputy regional governor Kostas Siaravas, proposing a brave arrangement of 100-120 installments for the relief of professionals, the mayor of Ioannina Thomas Begas, pointing out the investigation of solutions for the housing of the 2nd Local Directorate, the MP of Ioannina of the KKE Nikos Exarchos, the the president of the Chamber of Ioannina Makis Chrysostomou, the president of ADEDY D. Bratis, the president of N.T. of ADEDY Christos Grivas and representatives of trade unions, pensions and other bodies.
