Morocco‘s performance at the 2022 World Cup is “a source of pride” for Moroccans and all Africans (Patrice Motsepe)
Marrakech – The performance of the Moroccan national football team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is “a source of pride” for Moroccans and all Africans, said Monday in Marrakech, the President of the African Confederation football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.
Speaking at the opening of the CAF Awards 2023 ceremony, organized at the Palais des Congrès in the ocher city, Mr. Motsepe stressed that the performance of the Atlas Lions at the Qatari World Cup shows that African countries can achieve important exploits in different competitions.
After thanking Morocco for hosting this event, he noted that the CAF Awards celebrate the best players at the African level, adding that this event is proof that African football can be competitive and compete at the global level.
According to the CAF president, “we must prepare African countries to become world football champions”, noting that the development of football in Africa is a collective work of all its components.
Mr. Motsepe added that “football has the power to unite Africa. Its role must be recognized in making the continent a destination for world football.”
The Kingdom is hosting for the 2nd consecutive year the CAF Awards, which celebrate the excellence of African football, after the 2022 edition held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora.
