New Delhi: Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will be seen playing an important role in the T20 World Cup 2024. He has become the brand ambassador of the upcoming T20 World Cup along with Chris Gayle and Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt. The 42-year-old Yuvraj is set to participate in all the promotional events ahead of the 10-team tournament starting on June 1. Yuvraj was one of the key players in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup victory over South Africa.
This left-handed player had scored 148 runs in six matches at an average of 29.60, but during this period his strike rate was 194.74, which had spoiled the course of the tournament for India. In this tournament, he also became the first player to hit six sixes in an over in T20 International. He did this against Stuart Broad of England. After becoming the ambassador, the all-rounder expressed hope that this tournament will be like a carnival in the West Indies. He is also eager to see cricket grow in the United States.
Quoting ICC, Yuvraj said- Some of my fondest cricket memories are related to playing in the T20 World Cup, which also includes hitting six sixes in an over. So it is very exciting to be a part of this edition, which is going to be the biggest yet. The West Indies is a great place to play cricket, with the fans creating an atmosphere that is completely unique to that part of the world. Cricket is expanding in America as well and I’m excited to be a part of that growth through the T20 World Cup.
The spin bowling all-rounder played all T20 World Cups till 2016. However, India has not been successful in winning any World Cup since 2007. He joins Chris Gayle and Usain Bolt as the first ambassadors, adding to the excitement of the biggest T20 World Cup ever. India has been placed with Pakistan, Ireland, USA and Canada. This big match between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9 in New York.
